Posted by Ray @ 7:32 pmSouth Park is no longer funny.
Season 9’s premier episode was just sick, with none of the vicious sarcastic wit the series is known for. The script degenerated into an orgy of blood, guts, and gore. While normally I would be mildly amused by violence, pointless violence is just a waste of my time. That’s 22 minutes of my life I’m never going to get back, Matt & Trey!
And now, I just spent another 5 of my precious minutes announcing it in a newspost that I’m sure nobody reads anyway. Ye gods!
On the other hand, Carnivale is fantastic. It’s not for everyone, but it’s just about as close to real as any TV show involving the occult can get. And unlike other shows, this one actually scares you off the occult. Too many times, I’ve seen the media portray the occult as something… well, cool.
And I suppose it is, but I’m sure you people remember the matrix defense (at a peurile analysis, basically an insanity plea that says “I committed a crime because I thought I was in the matrix”). I wouldn’t be surprised if some time in future I hear a constantine defense (I killed him because I thought he was a demon!). Hell, even I think some people deserve the moniker.
But disregarding apportionment of blame, blatantly ignoring further analysis, and speaking just off the top of my head… isn’t there enough morbidity abound already, without people having to contribute to exacerbating the situation?
Take yesterday’s post, where I mentioned poetic justice being done. I don’t think the magnitude of the crime was made clear. 27 children died from eating a cassava-based snack during recess; the vendor, insisting the snack was not to blame, took some herself and ended up in the ICU. That was ghoulishly funny, until I discovered that the plant in question contains chemicals that break down into cyanide when digested. Correctly prepared, it’s alright; incorrectly prepared, it’s… well, toxic.
In other words the deaths needn’t have happened.
‘Tis an unnatural thing, for a parent to attend his child’s funeral.
But that’s okay. We can get over anything, right?
