I just discovered that www.chick.com, home of Jack Chick’s Christian comics, has been banned by the Media Development Authority of Singapore.
So. Has anyone heard of Jack T. Chick? He’s been around for a while, preaching Christian evangelism through comics. While this in itself isn’t bad, he’s widely regarded as a pest, mainly because of his severely fundamental (read: intolerably inept) stance on Christianity. Think Jehovah’s witnesses crossed with old Archie comics.
In any case, most of the savvy online community think his work is prime satire material. It virtually screams “Make fun of me!”
Yes, Chick comics are like the doddering old uncle who sits in the corner, spinning incongruously unlikely stories about old wars and past flames, going on and on about events you’ve never heard of, all while a thin film of drool gently rolls down his multiple chins and collects in a little damp spot on his undershirt.
The point is, he’s mostly harmless. Which makes outright banning him kind of like… say, bullying a retarded kid.
