State of Play IV - Singapore, Jan 7-9, 2007
Posted by Ray @ 4:55 pmThe website (via) is skimpy on details, but apparently it’s a conference to consider the future social, legal, political and educational implications of virtual worlds. But that’s not as important as the guest speaker list, which includes…
I don’t know how the IDA and NTU managed to get Mr Stephenson to show, but I suddenly want to attend. He is, of course, the author of the ridiculously, gloriously rich brain-food that is the Baroque Cycle (Quicksilver, The Confusion, The System of the World). The Baroque Cycle is to other books what a Ramly Burger is to a puny McDonald’s cheeseburger.
It would be interesting to hear what he has to say.

Haha, hearing Neal speak would be great (getting him to sign my Baroque Cycle will be marginally better). There is another speaker I thought you might go for. Raph Koster will be there too as well. e wrote this paper call Theory of Fun. But you may know him better as the lead designer on Ultima Online and Star Wars Galaxies.

Ooh, I heard about the paper but I never knew he was behind SWG.
Though I heard there were major problems with SWG, didn’t they revamp the entire engine mid-way or something? (Must be Sony’s fault, let’s blame them! Heh). I think I’d be much more excited to hear someone from Blizzard talk about WoW, though.

j schnorng: I suspect you need to pay money and register to attend or something. I can’t be sure, though. I’m looking to see if there are any volunteer things so I can sneak in, but it doesn’t look good yet. Maybe if you have friends in NTU!
