Sony is a big fat liar, did not win Emmy for SIXAXIS
Posted by Ray @ 4:22 pmThey did not in fact win the Emmy for their SUXASSES controller; they won it for their Dual Shock.
Makes much more sense.
But didn’t their press release say otherwise? Yes, yes it did. It lied to everyone, saying Sony won for their super-cool not-copied-at-all PS3 controller.
Asshats.
Macworld 2007! iPhone! Egads!
Posted by Ray @ 2:18 pmSteve Jobs’ keynote is done!
Apple TV (or iTV as it was rumoured) is the ho-hum new product announcement. The big announcement is:
1) An Apple phone!
2) A Widescreen, touchscreen iPod!
3) An internet device!
4) All in one!!
Phew!
Instead of having a keyboard or a stylus as input, the whole screen is a multi-touch input device. If any of you have seen the multi-touch haptics video a while back, you’re getting really really excited. It’s quite awesome; you move two fingers closer, photos zoom in; you move them farther apart, photos zoom out.
Being an iPod, it syncs with iTunes to update your Calendar, photos, etc.
It’s sleek and thin.
It’s got an accelerometer inside, so it knows if its horizontal or vertical. It’s got proximity sensors so if you bring it to your ear the screen shuts down. It’s got an ambient light sensor so it adjusts its brightness according to the ambient light.
The interface is classic Apple - easy to use for the simple stuff. Steve demo-ed conference calling (and it looked intuitive). I assume you have to dig around or install hacks to do the complex stuff, but I suspect few will.
The screen is gorgeous, the highest-resolution I’ve ever seen in a tiny device like that.
It connects to wi-fi automatically. Classic. The switch on the earphones is unobtrusive, stylish.
Lasts 5 hours on talk, 16 on playing music. Oh yes, did I mention the 8 Gigs of flash memory? Or the quite-affordable cost?
Only one question: the iPhone trademark is legitimately owned by Cisco, so I don’t know how Apple is going to call it the iPhone. Oh well. Throw money at them!
Steve also announced that Apple is renaming itself from Apple Computers to just Apple. About bloody time.
I know what my next phone purchase is going to be. I’m glad I held out for all these years, never buying a new phone. Now the O2 and the Nokia N-series and basically every other phone looks like a clunky toy next to the iPhone. It’s coming to Asia in 2008, I’m holding out ’till then!
